OES Masters awards presented

The two winners of the OES Masters prizes for their 2013 dissertations were recently presented with prize cheques for £100 each and award certificates.

The prize winner in the MSc in Learning and Teaching (MLT) category was Dr Paul Stevens for his dissertation entitled: “Pupils as co-researchers in developing a programme for primary to secondary school transition in the Republic of Ireland”. Since completing his MLT Paul has joined the Irish Schools’ Inspectorate and co-authored a book “Bullying in Irish Education” recently published by Cork University Press.

The other winner was Boby Ching who graduated with the MSc Education (Child Development and Education). His dissertation was entitled “The role of phonological, graphomorphological, and morphological awareness in Chinese word recognition of deaf children in Hong Kong”. Boby is now continuing with his doctoral studies with the Department under the supervision of Professor Terezinha Nunes who was also his Masters supervisor. Boby was presented with his award by the President of the OES, Professor Richard Pring, at a short presentation ceremony at the Department’s Wednesday Coffee Morning on 26 February.

The 2013 PGCE prize was previously presented to Florence Brockway at the PGCE Garden Party in June last year.
