Nina Tokhadze

I was a visiting scholar at Wolfson College, Oxford University in summer, 2003 as one of the representatives of the Citizenship Education Project in my country, Georgia.

The project included the Citizenship textbook writing for 9th graders, curriculum development, and teacher training throughout my country. The first half of the project objectives had already been reached by that time – we had written a textbook and designed and developed the curriculum. The teacher training course for 30 teachers was held in order to pilot the book in schools. We were about to start the next part of the project which included more teacher training, so at this stage working in Oxford was really essential for me. I met Mrs. T. Smith and Mr. C. Davies who were both engaged in social and educational studies.

During my stay in Oxford, I became a member of the Oxford University Society and since then, I have systematically received the newsletter and updated information from this organization. I annually send my updates too. Later I became the member of Oxford Education Society and Oxbridge Society in my country to participate in establishing relationships and links as well as disseminate information among alumni and friends.

The OES Committee

The reason why I wanted to become a member of the OES committee is because I have always worked in educational management and acquired good managerial skills; furthermore, I have contacts with educators worldwide, in my country – Georgia (ETAG-English Teachers’ Association of Georgia and Oxbridge Society in Georgia) – as well as neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey) and Europe as well as USA universities (Iowa University, Nebraska University, Indiana University and Denver University) as I periodically worked with my colleagues there. Consequently, considering the objectives of the committee, I will interest and involve professionals who fit the category of the society, the overwhelming majority does. In general, I would like to actively participate in any activity conducted by the committee.
